DR. TARA HEYLIGERDr. Heyliger was born in New York and grew up in Maryland. She graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY. During her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Medical and Dentistry of New Jersey, she served as Administrative Chief Resident. Upon completion, Dr. Heyliger decided to migrate to a warmer climate; this is what brought her to the Austin area. Dr. Heyliger loves the field of obstetrics and gynecology because she is able to form and cultivate a rich bond with her patients. Dr. Heyliger has a keen interest in obstetrics because it allows her to play an integral part in of the most precious moments of her patient’s life. She prides herself in her ability to make patients feel comfortable during all examinations and provides medical and surgical care throughout the woman's reproductive life cycle, from teen to post-menopausal years. Dr. Heyliger is a strong advocate of patient education because it empowers women to take care of themselves, thus making them better care givers. In addition to traditional medicine, Dr. Heyliger has a special niche, Osteopathic Muscle Manipulation. Osteopathic medicine, founded in the 1800’s by Andrew Taylor Still, MD, encompasses both traditional and osteopathic medicine and focuses on the musculoskeletal system. An osteopath uses hands on manipulative modalities to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal dysfunction, reduce pain, and increase the patient's overall well being without the use of drugs. This is especially beneficial to pregnant patients due to their restriction of taking various pain medicines. Gentle manipulative procedures, such as myofascial techniques and muscle energy techniques are performed by Dr. Heyliger in a relaxing environment. In her spare time Dr. Heyliger loves spending time with family and friends, interior decorating, traveling, music, the arts, cooking and of course shopping. |
